Banana Bread Recipe

Sarah Lyle, Staff Writer and Editor

I love it when I can come home to baked goods sitting on the counter, and more often than not, I come home to a piping hot loaf of banana bread. Getting that always turns my day around, because it is one of my favorite treats. I hope you enjoy it too!

Ingredients:

  • 2 to 3 medium bananas, just starting to turn brown.
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • A pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cups of sugar (You can alter this depending on if you want it more or less sweet)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups of all purpose flour

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, and butter a 4×8 pan.

Step 2: In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until they are completely smooth. Then, stir in the butter.

Step 3: Mix the baking soda and salt into the banana bowl with the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Mix in the flour.

Step 4: If you want to, now is the time when you can add in some berries or nuts or chocolate chips. These extra ingredients give your banana bread a very memorable taste!

Step 5: Pour the batten into the pan. Bake for 50-60 minutes until a tester (I recommend a chopstick) comes out clean.

Step 6: Remove the bread from the oven, and take it out of the pan. Make sure to let it cool before you eat it!

Options for people with allergies:

I know that many of you out there have allergies, so I have left some ways to alter the recipe so that all can enjoy.

Nut allergies: This bread does not contain any nuts 🙂

Gluten Free: If you are gluten free, you can replace the flour with gluten-free flour, alter the portion of the baking soda to 3/4 teaspoons (instead of 1) and add in 3/4 teaspoons baking powder. You can just stir in the baking powder when you add in the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract.

I hope you enjoy this family fun recipe!
