While it may seem like there are no more activities now that summer is over, fall has its own unique kind of fun. The crisp air and falling leaves bring a season full of pumpkin spice, hayrides, apple picking, and more! Here are 5 exciting autumn activities:
Apple Picking at Silverman’s Farm
Located in Easton, Connecticut, Silverman’s Farm runs from late August through early November with an array of
different apple varieties. The orchard is plentiful with Galas in early October, Sun Crisp apples in mid-October, and Fujis and Pink Ladies in November. All you have to do is pre-purchase a bag to fill at the market and hop onto a tractor that will take you out to the center of the orchard (just make sure to only pick in the designated areas). After you’re done picking your apples, you can explore around the rest of the farm, which includes several more exciting activities such as hay rides, pumpkin picking, and freshly baked pastries.
Strolling Through a Corn Maze at Wells Hollow Creamery
Wells Hollow Creamery is has a challenging, non-haunted corn maze that is sure to create lasting memories. The maze is open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5:30pm to 9:00 pm, and the tall stalks of corn will provide for a great photo opportunity. After completing the maze, you can also visit the creamery and try over 60 flavors of ice cream.
Visit the Ambler Farm Market
Ambler Farm is a family friendly farm that has been open for almost 200 years. Located in Wilton, Connecticut, the farm is open year round, and there is a different selection of produce every season. In the fall, some of the produce offered includes arugula, beets, carrots, fennel, kale, baby leeks, peas, swiss chard, and sweet onions. All of the produce is organic, and is grown on site in the fields or in the greenhouse. The farm stand is open every Saturday from 9am-1pm, and the Wilton Farmers’ Market also offers some of their produce as well.
Beardsley Cider Mill and Orchard
Located in the White Hills area of Shelton, Connecticut, Beardsley Cider Mill and Orchard is a small farm that has been owned and run by the Beardsley family since 1849. The orchard offers apple picking as well as other fall activities, while the farm shop and bakery sells freshly baked pies, cider donuts, pre-picked apples, honey, and other treats.
Autumn Walks at Earthplace
Located right here in Westport, Connecticut, Earthplace is a non-profit science education organization that focuses on the natural world and sustainability. The grounds are open from dawn to dusk, and while the trails are beautiful all year long, there is a special magic that comes from walking under the golden autumn foliage. You can walk at Earthplace free of charge, though remember that the wildlife sanctuary does not allow dogs.
No matter who you are or what you’re interested in, there is bound to be fall activity for you!
