At CMS there is a whole club dedicated to making sure that CMS is a place where hate is not tolerated. After all their work, they had their first assembly on 11/15 just a few weeks ago.
6th & 7th graders had lots of thoughts on the initiative:
Bea Anderson, a sixth-grade student, loved how interactive the assembly was. She highlighted that it created a fun learning environment where she could share her thoughts and feelings. Mrs. Socha, the Wolves 8th-grade LA teacher, appreciated that students led the assembly and actively engaged the audience. She emphasized the importance of this initiative in our school.
While sitting in on the club’s meeting, I observed the members demonstrating exceptional engagement and dedication to their work. Their commitment to the group and their learning was evident and commendable. While at the meeting, I also was able to ask a few members their opinion about the club.
Dylan Rosen, a club member, noted that the club helps raise awareness about bullying and encourages prevention. Hannah Berghoff, another club member, expressed the club’s significance by saying it teaches everyone to treat others kindly. Elena Frey shared that she enjoys the club meetings, where they first focus on their pledge – the No Place for Hate Promise – and then discuss identity and acceptance.
Ms. Sweeney, the club manager, stated that signing the pledge is just the beginning. She mentioned they will be proud when everyone commits to making CMS a No Place for Hate school.
The No Place for Hate clubs has just started their next project on identity and we excited to hear more about it soon!
