On Monday January 6, Justin Trudeau resigned from his position as Prime Minister in the Canadian government. He will continue to be the Prime Minister of Canada until the new leader is picked. Trudeau was the leader of the Liberal Party for eleven years in total and for nine of those eleven years Trudeau was the Prime Minister, but all of that is now over.
Justin Trudeau’s Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister had resigned causing Trudeau to resign. According to CNN sources, Trudeau was expected to lose the upcoming election in October. The Conservative Party (Trudeau’s opposition party) held a majority over the Liberal Party (Trudeau’s party) in parliament.
As a result of the resignation, Parliament is frozen until March 24th. During this time, a new party leader will be picked. There are a number of possible replacements for Trudeau; one of them is the newly resigned Deputy Prime Minister, Christyia Freeland.
Meanwhile, pressure from the United States has left the country exposed and weak.. Trump is set to put a 25% tax on all goods coming into the United States from Canada.”(CNN) There were conversations over the radio about Trudeau before his resignation. Trump also proposed making Canada “The 51st State.” Could this have been a reason for Justin Trudeau’s imminent departure?
