The LA area is currently facing severe fires, These fires have claimed the lives of 27 people, and many others are dealing with the aftermath. Numerous counties have been evacuated, with more on standby. According to a CBS report, 15,000 homes/structures have already burned, with more expected to follow.
As of today, Jan 21st:
Multiple fires have broken out in San Diego forcing more people to evacuate and many schools and businesses to shut down. One of these major fires is the Lilac Fire which has attacked 80 acres of space forcing the citizens into a major retreat. It started overnight as a bushfire, and grew to a major fire that SDFD is working hard to eliminate. In LA there are still red flag warnings in many regions, but the LAFD has been able to start containing fires working towards extinguishing them. In Pala Mesa the LAFD has gotten control of the fire there, lifting the evacuation orders to anyone who hasn’t left yet.
A significant factor in this disaster is the ongoing low humidity and strong wind gusts, which are enabling the flames to spread rapidly across the region. If you’re looking to help, many donation centers are specifically asking for no more clothing donations, as they can’t manage the volume coming in. Notable figures like Beyoncé, Leonardo DiCaprio, Paris Hilton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and Jay Leno have contributed. Ensure any donation you make goes to a verified organization to avoid scams
