Most people (myself included) think that one marathon is a VERY hard thing to complete but this one has taken it to a whole new level.
The World Marathon that has made one marathon looks like a stroll through town. It began on Jan 31st and ended on Feb 6: 168 hours of running. This invitation only event is a whopping $48,00 due to the private planes needed to transport participants. After each marathon (26.2 miles), runners jet off to their next continent for a total of 183.4 miles! The participants range in age from 18 to 68 and represent 21 countries. The race kicks off in Wolf’s Fang Antarctica, continues to Cape Town in Africa, Perth in Australia, Abu Dhabi in Asia, Faro in Europe, Cartagena in South America, and ends in Miami in North America.
This year’s winner was Paul Holborn formerly of Britain but now resides in San Antonio, Texas. His average time per marathon was 3:22:36, totaling 23 hours and 38 minutes! He is a former boxer ending his career at age 27 due to long work hours. He wanted to get into shape again and participate in high endurance events. At first he thought is was impossible he said, “I thought, ‘Who on earth can do seven marathons in seven days? That’s legendary!’ But I couldn’t shake the idea. My wife backed me all the way, and that was it – I threw myself into training.”
