What Is The 24 Hours of Le Mans?
The 24 Hours of Le Mans is a 24 hour World Endurance Championship race in France that is widely known throughout the racing community and beyond. Le Mans is known because of the 24 hour length. Le Mans has three categories of cars racing on the track at the same time; Hypercar, LMP2, and LMGT3. LMP2 cars do not race during every race on the FIA World Endurance Championship schedule. The winner of the race is determined by who is in first, second, third, etc. by the end of the 24 hours. You may be asking, what is the World Endurance championship? Well, it is lengthy racing series with Le Mans being the longest at 24 hours. Other races range from eight hours to twelve hours. There are multiple drivers per team. Because there are multiple drivers per team, they race in stints; swapping in and out of the car multiple times during the race. This is a carefully planned strategy as one driver might be better driving during the day, and one of the others might be better driving at night. Rain can also play a role in driver strategy as well. For example there are some drivers who have trouble driving through rain, but other drivers excel in driving during rainy conditions. Le Mans tests each drivers ability to consistently drive on the limit at lengths that are unparalleled.
