I bet you’ve heard of the name Godzilla. Godzilla is a giant Japanese monster or kaiju as I call him. He has appeared in many movies for a very long time and has remained an iconic symbol in Japan and the U.S alike.

Godzilla first appeared in 1954 in the movie: Godzilla. In Japanese and Black and white it was a hit in Japan but not really anywhere else. Toho Studios or the creators of Godzilla then created another hit film: Godzilla Raids Again in 1955. Godzilla soon returned to the big screen in 1962 in a joint collaboration with the American monster King Kong! They both appeared in the full-color film and were a hit in both America and Japan. In the end, Kong wins the fight plunging both monsters into the ocean. The next movie in this steadily growing franchise was directed by directing genius Ishirō Honda who created Godzilla v.s Mothra in 1964. Mothra another famous kaiju who had her own film in 1961 faces off against Godzilla. Following this film was Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster! Featuring Mothra, Godzilla, Rodan (Who had his own film in 1956), and the space monster Ghidorah. This film is my favorite as Rodan, Godzilla, and Mothra work together to take down Ghidorah so he doesn’t destroy the world. The next movie appeared a year later where a group of aliens hoped to recreate the fight between Ghidorah and Godzilla with Rodan in The Invasion of Astro-Monster. There are way too many more movies to list but I will briefly list them here: Ebirah Horror of the Deep: 1966, Son of Godzilla: 1967, Destroy All Monsters: 1968, All Monsters Attack: 1969, Godzilla V.S Hedorah: 1971, Godzilla V.S Gigan: 1972, Godzilla V.S Megalon: 1973, Godzilla V.S Mechagodzilla: 1974, Terror of Mechagodzilla: 1975, The Return of Godzilla: 1984, Godzilla V.S Biollante: 1989, Godzilla V.S King Ghidorah: 1991, Godzilla V.S Mothra: 1992, Godzilla V.S Mechagodzilla II: 1993, Godzilla V.S SpaceGodzilla: 1994, Godzilla V.S Destroyah: 1995, Godzilla 2000: 2000, Godzilla V.S Megaguirus: 2000, Giant Monsters All-out Attack: 2001, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla: 2002, Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S: 2003, Godzilla Final Wars: 2004, Godzilla: 2014, Shin Godzilla: 2016, Godzilla King of the Monsters: 2019, Godzilla V.S Kong: 2021. In conclusion, Godzilla has been running since 1954 and is still a worldwide hit. What started my love of Godzilla was when my Grandpa first showed me Godzilla because he watched the first one in the theaters and has been a lifelong fan ever since. This article is dedicated to him and his love of Godzilla
